“I was told to find a meeting when I got out of rehab, which is how I ended up at the Log Cabin. I sat in the back row, on my own for the first time in 60 days, scared of what, if anything, lay ahead. After the meeting, a gravelly-voiced man sauntered up to me and said, “Oh honey, you’re done.” He handed me a business card and invited me to another meeting the following day. He wasn’t at that next meeting, but I took his advice and began exploring the variety of meetings offered at the Recovery Center and the Log Cabin. Although I was emotionally shut down, people welcomed me. During that important first year of recovery, I found myself attending the daily noon meetings. I found friends, a sponsor, a sober gay community, and a life I couldn’t have imagined in those early days in rehab, when I thought my life was over and I’d never have fun again.
